Day 7

Day 7 saw abysmal weather in the form of heavy rain, preventing us from jogging on the beach. On the way back the sun typically made an appearance so plan 'B' was to go to the local park for a jog. There were clear pathways in which to jog on, though a distinct lack of markers as seen on the beach which help us stop/start at consistent intervals. While AK and Dave ran off in a sort of race, I followed my own path in the opposite direction keeping a good pace going, together with the usual stopping/starting. After twenty minutes I decide to look for AK and Dave and eventually catch up with them. Overall the experience didn't feel as effective as jogging on the beach. This is definitely the first and hopefully the only time weather has beaten us (despite extensive planning) causing us to instigate plan 'B'.

Notes: No Chris for the first time since Day 1. Dave joins us for the first time. Also, the first time we've jogged somewhere other than the beach. No picture taken at end, sparking debate about whether it was a 'true jlog event'.

Weather Conditions: Heavy rain and cold, followed by brighter and drier spells

*** It is still being debated whether this jog is eligible for inclusion in this jlog—due to different surroundings, lack of 'togetherness' and most of all, no "picture of proof" was taken at the end of the run. ***

Day 6

Day 6 saw the next jog take place, this time with a fourth person in the group. Koh joined us while on a visit, and hot weather forced us to apply sun cream.

The tide was most definitely out today, yet we were jogging at the usual time of day. It was beneficial not having to stop to climb over the fenceposts each the end of each length. At the halfway stage we stopped to play with the frisbee as we had done on Day 2. The breeze, however, was detrimental to the frisbee being thrown in certain directions.

Some of us were feeling the strain today, but carried on nonetheless. I fitted that description, and as such probably didn't get my full potential out today; I had felt this the previous day.

Notes: Frisbee played again during a break

Weather Conditions: Sunny, hot, moderate breeze, cool at times

Day 5

Day 5 takes us into our third week of jogging. The sun was shining while there was not a cloud in the sky—definitely the hottest day of jogging so far. To see if the tide would be out (which is beneficial to our jog), we agreed to turn up later in the day—in this case, we arrived at about 2:15pm. This is well over two hours later than our previous jogs have been. It may have been the hot weather but there were more people around today; not something we have a problem with, but most importantly of all was the fact that the tide was still considerably in! As mentioned, the sun was out in full force. This resulted in one or two sunburnt thumbs (me!) while one of us remembered to bring a cap to keep cool (well done AK!)

One bottle of water was not enough, it seems. While my rations were a bottle of Evian during the jog, AK enjoyed three bottled drinks, one of which was Ribena. Good forward thinking there! I was keeping the pace going today. AK and Chris kept going too. AK and myself ate an apple each to give us some energy. At the end of the jog it didn't feel like the end, so to speak, I could have continued a bit longer...

Notes: Hottest weather so far. It is also worth noting that the jogs seem to take exactly the same amount of time. The next few could be timed to see if this is true. Also, we listened to Moby's "Play" album en route to the jog!

Weather Conditions: Hot, sunny, no cloud, little breeze

Roseberry Topping 22/6/05:

Yesterday a handful of us climbed Roseberry Topping. This took approximately 30 minutes to do. It was rather steep, with forest and rocky ground to ascend. We jogged some of the way down.

Day 4

Day 4 saw us meeting up at the comparatively later time of 11.30am, it was time to go jogging again. The tide was in more than ever today, so it was again a case of jumping/stepping/climbing over the fences. What I began doing, with AK and Chris following my lead, was jogging each length then stopping to get over the fence. Overall we were stopping more, but jogging more. Soon we left the beach as we had done on Day 3, and ended the first half on the pavement area. After taking a lengthy stop to recover, we began the inevitable jog back. We were really going for it, starting/stopping/starting/stopping etc. at appropriate intervals. The weather was good today, but we were bemused by the ever-incoming tide with each day.

Notes: It was decided to jog a bit later in the day next time, to see if the tide would be further out.

Weather Conditions: Warmer, some breeze

Day 3

Day three of the jogging occured five days after day two, but who's counting? We met up at 11am (quite possibly one of the earliest meeting times yet) and soon got jogging, despite the threat of rain. The tide was especially in today, and were jumping fences over each length. Soon enough we left the beach and continued jogging on the pavement that stretched along the beach! Once we'd reached the usual distance, we took a quick break and turned back. We re-joined the beach at the point we left it, and I for one was keeping up really well, going that extra distance you could say. Good feeling to get to the finish point, as it was especially rewarding. Once we got back to the car, it looked like it was going to rain again, but instead the sun was starting to appear!

Notes: n/a

Weather Conditions: Little breeze, threat of rain, cool

Day 2

Day two came immediately after day one - the very next day. We agreed to meet up an hour earlier. This time, Chris would be joining us. We stopped by a supermarket to get some bottled water and made our way to the beach. Again, the warm-up stretches were carried out and we got started on the jogging, beginning slowly and getting quicker. Chris impressed us by running at some stages! This time we jogged further and made it to the last post (approximately 14 "lengths". Once we had reached the last post, at the half-way stage, we tried out a frisbee AK had brought. Today it was rather windy so we weren't having perfect throws. We saw people on horseback further down the beach. It seemed like they were advancing towards us, but they didn't.

On the way back we kept our pace and energy. Once the jog was over, pictures were taken to mark the completion of the second day of jogging. Afterwards we went for a healthy lunch then back to Middlesbrough.

Notes: This was the only day so far that we played with the frisbee.

Weather conditions: Cooler than the previous day, with a noticeable breeze with a mild temperature.

Day 1

Day one, naturally, saw AK and myself try something we've never done before: jogging! But more specifically, jogging along the local beach. Man, the sea air is so fresh.

We arrived at noon with our essential items being sunglasses, iPod (maybe not) and water..but especially the water! We began by warming up and once on the sand, we began jogging slowly and slowly building up speed. We had posts and fences on the beach to set out lengths we would start and stop at. Once I'd realised I'd have to jog all the way back where we came from, I had to have a "halfway" point.

Once we returned to where we started, I for one was very tired. I'm sure AK was too. I had consumed my bottle of water by this point. A photo of me marking the end of Day 1 was taken by AK.

Notes: This, so far, is the only day that Chris had not joined us.

Weather Conditions: Sunny, warm, little breeze. The tide was out!
